Saturday 8 January 2011 at 7.30pm at Holy Trinity Church, Chrishall
A magical mix of Twelfth Night music - from energetic South American carols with lively dance rhythms, to beautifully moody Russian pieces, traditional English folk carols and arrangements of seasonal standards. An exciting version of The Twelve Days of Christmas will be interspersed by readings of the hilarious thank you letters of John Julius Norwich. The Twelve Days thread weaves further through the programme in a selection of delightful little piano pieces from Partridge Pie by Richard Rodney Bennett, such as 'Four Calling Birds', 'Six Geese a-Laying' and so on.
In a broad palette of musical styles, The Granta Chorale singers turn their voices to close harmony, lush counterpoint, folk carols and the more contemporary but sumptuous harmonies of American composers Morten Lauridsen and Eric Whitacre (fast becoming a cult figure of the contemporary choral scene).
Entertaining readings from Stephanie Emberson and Neil Marshall will add touches of levity and fun to this musical feast. One of the stars of the evening is the venue itself! The candlelit church at Chrishall provides the perfect atmospheric backdrop for this very special event.
