We can sing at your wedding or other event...

The Granta Chorale

Granta Chorale singers are available to provide a choir for your wedding and have a wide repertoire of suitable music. As well as supporting the congregational hymns we are often asked to sing during the signing of the register, for the entrance of the bride or at other points in the service. The music list below is by no means exhaustive and we are happy to discuss other pieces you may wish to suggest.

If you would like to discuss your requirements in more detail please contact us by email.

Here are some examples of music that we have sung at recent weddings:

  2. Come Down O Love Divine (tune: Down Ampney)
  3. Love Divine (tune: Blaenwern)

  6. The King of Love my Shepherd is (to the tune by J.B. Dykes)

Some hymnbooks also contain good descants e.g. Praise my soul the King of heaven in Hymns A&M New Standard.

Words for Anthems

Ave Verum - Byrd

Ave verum corpus, natum de Maria Virgine
Vere passum, inmolatum in cruce pro homine
Cujus latus perforatum, unda fluxit sanguine
Esto nobis praegustatum in mortis examine
O dulcis, O pie, O Jesu fili Mariae
Miserere mei. Amen

Come let's rejoice - John Amner

Come let's rejoice unto the Lord: let us make joy to God our Saviour.
Let us approach to his presence in confession: and in psalms let us make joy to him.

Holy, Holy, Holy - Schubert

Holy, holy, holy, God almighty Lord
Holy, holy, holy, everywhere adored.
He without beginning, he the eternal one
reigns and rules forever all things 'neath the sun

Holy, holy, holy, God almighty Lord
Holy, holy, holy, everywhere adored.
Power and love and wonder circling round his throne,
praise him, holy, holy, Lord of life alone.

If ye love me - Tallis

If ye love me, keep my commandments, and I will pray the Father,
and he shall give you another comforter, that he may bide with you for ever, ev'n the spirit of truth.
(John 14 vv15-17)

Lord, for thy tender mercy's sake - Farrant

Lord, for thy tender mercy's sake,
lay not our sins to our charge,
but forgive that is past,
and give us grace to amend our sinful lives.
To decline from sin and incline to virtue,
that we may walk in an upright heart before thee,
now and evermore.

O Perfect Love - Janet Wheeler

O perfect Love, all human thought transcending,
Lowly we kneel in prayer before Thy throne,
That theirs may be the love which knows no ending,
Whom Thou forevermore dost join in one.

O perfect Life, be Thou their full assurance,
Of tender charity and steadfast faith,
Of patient hope and quiet, brave endurance,
With childlike trust that fears nor pain nor death.

Grant them the joy which brightens earthly sorrow;
Grant them the peace which calms all earthly strife,
And to life's day the glorious unknown morrow
That dawns upon eternal love and life.

Rejoice in the Lord alway - unknown

Rejoice in the Lord alway,
and again I say, rejoice.
Let your softness be known unto all men:
the Lord is at hand.
Be careful for nothing:
but in all prayer and supplication,
let your petitions be manifest unto God with giving of thanks.
And the peace of God,
which passeth all understanding,
shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesu

Ubi caritas - Duruflé

Ubi caritas is the antiphon for Maundy Thursday
Where charity and love are, there God is.

Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est.
Congregavit nos in unum Christi amor.
Exultemus, et in ipso iucundemur.
Temeamus, et amemus Deum vivum.
Et ex corde diligamus nos sincero.

Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est.
Simul ergo cum in unum congregamur:
Ne nos mente dividamur caveamus.
Cessent iurgia maligna, cessent lites.
Et in medio nostri sit Christus Deus.

Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est.
Simul quoque cum beatis videamus,
Glorianter vultum tuum, Christe Deus.
Gaudium quod est immensum, atque probum:
Saecula per infinita saeculorum.
